I expect some players will get this very quickly, and some will take a long time. Five correct guesses is a successful solve.īecause only one character can interact with the puzzle at a time, one roll is given per hour no matter who is helping solve it.

A guess can be made before the answer is given, if the player desires.Ī solve: five throws (but no answers). Say: "I can tell you only three things about this puzzle: the name of the game ("Petals around the Rose"), the fact that the answer is always even, and the answer for any particular throw."Īny player may spend one hour attempting the puzzle, in which time they can request either:Ī roll: one throw and the correct answer provided by the DM. Normally, outside of a DND table, the players would be advised to keep their logic to themselves, so as not to ruin the fun of solving for anyone else. (A note for the DM on presenting the puzzle that is also a pretty big clue) Determining the answer for any roll is simple and can be done mentally in a few seconds. Determining how to calculate that number is the aim of the puzzle. For each roll, there is a correct number given as the answer for that roll. The puzzle consists of repeatedly rolling 5d6. If you want to try it for yourself, an online version is available here. The solution is hidden behind a spoiler tag, so feel free to read on even if you don't want to be given the answer. I wasn't able to find a post about it in this subreddit, so I figured I'd put it up here.
